I fail to see why rifle stocks need much if any camo as long as they are matte. And TV hunters? in blinds with face camo?? WTF I’m fairly sure you already knew this but no one is painting their stock camo in order to hide it from game.

Following.....have one that needs paint as well and I am too cheap to have a pro do it.
Do you guys apply a clear coat over the paint or just rock paint for easy touch ups? I usually do 2-3 coats of the clear satin over the paint. If you've used a sponge or something else for texture, the clear coat won't diminish it.

These are my two recent. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do the one with brown base and black and gold webbing very much justice. In person the brown base really makes the gold and black pop.

Do you guys apply a clear coat over the paint or just rock paint for easy touch ups? Dead flat clear works well with camo. I like to clear coat every stock I paint, because the clear really helps to protect the finish from getting all scratched up. YMMV.. I tend to like the scratches, dents, scrapes and what not from using a gun. If I know when it occurred each one is a memory. MY BIL and Sister like PERTY guns. Wood and bluing which is fine but I will take a synthetic rattle can paint job versus a perty wood Browning. But that is just me!! Guns are tools to me. I don't have a rusted gun inside or out. If it is a modern gun and won't shoot MOA down the road it goes.

Almost done refinishing a Husky 1640 stock that's going to look better than 99% of what's rolling off production lines today.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I’ve got a couple of rifles with factory camo and spider web finishes. Never done a rifle myself. My waterfowl guns on the other hand, have rattle can camo jobs. Some pretty good and others hideous.

I kind of like alternating wider bands of contrasting colors with an overspray using mesh cloth. Easy enough.

Kimber Montana and other synthetic stock rifles may shoot fine, but I'm sick of synthetics. Maybe a result of time in Vietnam and the M-16. I prefer, and am willing to tend to walnut and blued rifles, but not lots available lately.

Always kinda thought it was funny how much matching expensive modern camo gets hunted from inside a deer blind. Meanwhile men who hunt and stalk for a living around the globe do so, more often than not, with plaid, tweed, khakis, wool, walnut and blue steel. To that ends. My favorite non wood rifle over the past wood has been the one I had cerakote. I call it OJ. Same pattern as this...
