My friend has a Leupold VX-7L 4.5-18x56 that he won many years ago on a NRA banquet rifle. I don’t believe that it has ever been out it the field. He is thinking about selling it and asked my opinion. After looking around the internet, I can’t find a similar used scope for sale.

I know the Leupold haters will say it is worth nothing, but I would appreciate some opinions on what a fair price might be.

Only one I saw in sold listings was on Gunbroker, sold for $800. But, I'd bet that one would go higher on auction on Ebay. Not sure how much though. The L scopes were sort of a niche thing, loved by some, hated by many, because of the weird objective lens shape. Was an interesting idea, but didn't really catch on. Most are willing to sacrifice scope height for looks.

I told him that my best guess was $750 so I was not far off. It is definitely a niche market for a large, heavy scope that is out of production. Thanks.

Sad thing is Leupold no longer supports the CDS system for the VX-7! So not being able to get a custom dial could hold down the value on a really nice scope.

Redeeming virtue would be it would be replaced with a current model most likely if it needed repair. Doubt they service that one any longer.
