Found someone with a Winchester Model 54 chambered in 32 Winchester Special. I have yet to get the gun in my hands, but I'm interested because of the rarity of bolt-action rifles using this cartridge.

I'm aware this was a factory special order option, and I'd like to know how many of them were made in the 10 or 11 years Model 54's were manufactured. Unfortunately, I can't find any information using my Google-fu!

David Bichrest stated in his Model 54 book, they were never cataloged and the barrels discontinued in 1932. I know that doesn't help much with your question.

Is there a Winchester historian I can contact? A PR guy from the company who might know?

Poconjack & Czech1022: Can either of you post a picture of those Model's 54 in 32 Winchester Special? Especially of the caliber designation on the barrel and the proof marks area.
I know I have never seen one and I have been "looking" at Model 54's for well over half a century now.
It is though, my understanding, that the Winchester folks at the factory would re-barrel a Rifle or a Carbine that was in 30-30 W.C.F. to 32 W.S. for a fee - I am NOT sure how the proof marks on one of the re-barreled 32 W.S. barrels would look like/line up with the receivers proof marks. Again I would LIKE to see pictures of the caliber designation and the proof marks area.

Bummer - just talked to the owner - he sent me the wrong number on his gun list - it should have been a Winchester 94, not a 54!!!

I'm not surprised. I was hopeful to see a 54 in 32 Special though
