I'm putting together a couple of 25cal rifles, 257BobAI and 250Sav.
I've got several boxes of Nosler 85gr BalTip. These are older production, 100pc/box.
These are gonna be probably 1st deer rifles for youngsters. So likely broadside behind the shoulder shots.
If they're not dependable for doing the job on deer, they'll just punch paper.
Anybody have any experience with this bullet on whitetail?

Thanks for any info,

R.D.

I`ve used them both in the A.I. and standard version of the 250. Excellent bullet.
Killed a buck two years ago with the 250 out of a model 20, the deer went 20 yrds., behind the shoulder.

More important is knowing the kids can shoot accuratly, and this is a good cartridge to start them with.
Good Luck.

Those are varmint bullets. They still come in 100ct boxes. They are very explosive.

The 100gr in 100ct boxes (1990’s) were also thin jacket varmint bullets, but the newer 50ct are decent deer bullets.

Might want to consider the 80gr TTSX?

The .257 85 Ballistic Tip is a tough bullet.

Another member here has used them from a 257 Weatherby with what I am pretty sure we're very good results.

I tried them in 25-06 and didn't find them nearly as explosive as a true varmint bullet should be.

The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!
