Holy crap.. A Ferrari F-40 just crossed the line at over 3 MILLION bux... The cars that are auctioned today are just unreal.. Watching these beauties is a TON better than any so-called 'news' .

When I was at the sub base in Groton, CT. in '67 there was a sailor selling his Austin Healy 3000 MK-III 4 sp w/OD for about $1500 (IIRC).. One sold today, just like it, for over $80,000... (sigh).. laugh

A car rolled across yesterday sold for $6.3 mil
I forget what it was
Wish I had the coin to sit in that audience and have a real chance of winning a bid

A few weeks ago from the Dallas Ft Worth auction Nice pickups were going for less than you would pay for the paint job. Even the announcers were couldn't believe the sale prices. One quipped , We should buy these trucks, take them to California and make some money...

The number of cars they're getting over $1Million for is amazing. Gives me (a very little) hope for my 96 Impala SS.

Actually, what's amazing is the fact that the dollar is worth so little it takes over a million of them to by an old car.

For several years I made a nice bit of pocket change doing pre-purchase inspections of collectors' cars for potential buyers, and filing detailed reports on their condition. The overseas buyers who don't have an opportunity to do an onsite inspection of a car would gladly pay a big fee for a detailed inspection, including a test drive and dozens of pictures, plus research on the car's pedigree. The car collectors' market is as bad as, or maybe worse than dealing in "collectible" guns- - - -lots of fakes and ripoff artists out there. One man in Australia who owns a classic car sales facility kept me busy all over the southeast- - - -40 or 50 inspections over a 15 year period, at least. A collector from France bought a numbers-correct restored 59 Corvette after I checked it out- - - -for the asking price of $90K. It's always fun to spend the other guy's money- - - -just like building round track race cars.

Let me know when my stock 1994 Toyota reg cab 4wd PU with 22rei engine is bringing $1 mill. I told my wife I would sell it when I get what I paid for it new, may have to wait for my ship to come in.
