Not with today’s ball powders. Not with the moderate powder charge of the 6.5CM. Not unless you’re out hunting in current Northern Colorado weather around Walden…or Craig….and even then it’s probably not an issue.

Although rumor is the Staball powders have a fair amount of nitroglycerin in them, which means it might have more deterrent coatings, which made ball powders more difficult to ignite. But allegedly most of the newer double based powders are easier to ignite.
The magnum primer recommendation came from larger charges of traditional slower burning double based powder.

Try them and see. They may prove to shoot better groups.
Not always but there is a chance.
Pretty much shoot mag primers in everything these days as I shoot mainly ball powders and it simplifies the bench.

Just so happens I was out yesterday in 12 degree weather doing cartridge / powder checks. One combo was 6.5 CM / StaBALL 6.5 using LR primers.
Had no issues with meaningful MV changes or group size changes.
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

What primer to use for 6.5 CM with Win Staball 6.5 and 139 Scenar bullets Have read its recommended to use LRM primers with ball powders. I just use CCI200's and BR2's. Never any issue with the 6.5CM or 22-250, running that powder. Lowest temps shot/documented for myself is 18-20 degrees F. Sorry, posting pics is the best way to show my experience... YMMV.. We know the CCI's are not as hot as the WLR primers, so as mathman ponders on which ones puddle was using, I'll get that out of the way right now.. The loads posted above showed no pressure signs, nor did they show any detonation issues. Went bang as per usual..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

BSA, what 6.5CM rifle are you shooting those groups with? Great shooting.
Duh! So focussed on the groups and loads I didn't read the top of the sheet. Impressive accuracy.

6.5 case volume isn't nearly enough to really NEED mag primers, but sometimes they do work better than a standard primer.
Only a test can tell you if there's an advantage for your gun or not.
Just FYI, & a pretty good argument against it is that 6.5 brass is also available with SRP pockets..........................just sayin'. Draw your own conclusions.

MM It never hurts to try a mag primer, making sure you work up. Accuracy may be better, it may be worse. But you won't know until you try it. As far as the primer not working at low temps with StaBall 6.5, I've never seen it. Now, if we were talking CFE223, I've seen it there. Just a FYI.. However, anytime I see detonation issues, because of low temps, I switch powders instead of primers.
