Looking to install a new barrel on a new rifle. It has a heavy varmint 1-8 twist chrome moly barrel on it now and wanting to switch to a stainless 1-10 or 1-14 not sure yet. Is there any accuracy difference in the companys that have them, shilen, krieger, etc. Any help would be great. Thanks. HAPPY HUNTING

Can’t compare the two , but can tell you I have a 243 prefit on a Remington LSS from urban rifleman 26” heavy sporter and it shoots .25”-.5” groups with little work Has shot match bullets down into .13’s and .18’s I have another on a Savage T10 Shilen 26” heavy sporter that has shot .3’s-.6’s with various hunting bullets and has shot occasional groups into low .2’s with match bullets And again , this was without a lot of work Both seem to be pretty friendly to most powder used and that covers several Hodgdon , IMR , Accurate , and Reliant powders For me that’s plenty accurate Kenneth

Rifle barrels are like people, in that every one is different. I've had good luck with Douglas, Hart, and Shilen barrels.
I have a Shilen 260 REM barrel on a Savage 10 action and McM stock that is sub-MOA accurate.

I've tried several, and the worst was an ER Shaw .250 Savage barrel from Midway. Even then it shot right around an inch, it just coper fouled horribly. McGowen and X-Caliber have been the ones I've used the most.

These shoot good. But limited on twist they offer. https://eabco.com/eabco-barrels/savage-rifle-barrels/I have used Shilen, McGowan, Criterion, Shaw, A&B. All shot well. The Shilen Select Match was the hands down winner. It shot everything well.

I consider it a magnum contour.

I've got several barrels that were factory barrels and the several barrels that are after market on some rifles.
There isn't any real standard on after market barrels... they range from a light magnum contour, to a magnum contour... one I received from Douglas I would consider it to be a heavy magnum contour, in a 6 x 45. The length is only 20 inches, so its manageable for what I am using it for...I ordered it as a Predator contour, but its as heavy if not a little heavier than the barrels on my Ruger and Remington Varmint rifles...
I've got a 6.5 Grendal in a Ruger Predator... I really like that barrel... on a long barreled 22.250 on a Model 70 Short action, the 28 inch barrel has a Magnum contour.. but since its a 22 caliber barrel, its about right... same as the Ruger Predator barrel on my Grendal.
