I’m sorta itching to try a rifle chambered in 25-06. Anybody have suggestions on any models that are currently manufactured? I’d like something with a 24” or 26” barrel I think. I seem to shoot them better and don’t mind toting them. I just want a good shooter for hunting.

700 CDL SF.
Weatherby Vanguard or Mark V.
X-Bolt, several variations.
Probably others.

Plenty of used Remington and Winchester, Savage has some as well. Ruger had them in 24" with magnum contour barrels. Several manufacturers had them with varmint contour barrels if you don't mind the weight. Myself it would be an older 700 BDL or ADL.

Build one. Then you’ll really have something. This was a 700 classic in 7x57 that got a Shilen 25 cal barrel, fluted and chambered in 25/06.

Well, my favorite 25-06 misses you on two points. It's not currently produced and it has a 22" barrel but It's a Sako Fiberclass. I have a soft spot for the Fiberclass models anyway and own several. My 25-06 sure does shoot well. What's not to like about a Sako AV? Good Luck to you! Rci

I owned a Cooper 52 Excalibur in 25-06 that was a super accurate rifle that weighed enough to hold steady in field positions. My grandson liked it better than I so he has it now.

my speed goat rifle is a 257 Weatherby mag. with a 28 inch Brux barrel And a 5.5-22 x 56 Nightforce scope my handloads 103 gr. Hammer bullet at 3680 FPS average in a custom Mark 5 rifle ,but i do have a Weatherby Accumark 257 Weatherby mag. 26 inch barrel in a factory rifle that shoots excellent too for speed goats.with handloads there is a big difference in velocity between a 25-06 and a 257 Weatherby mag. my rifles are accurate and fast and the old saying is SPEED KILLS .good luck with your choice,Pete53

Get a 700 in and long action std caliber and put the barrel of you choice made how you want it. Simple. Been doing it for 50 years.

they've been killed at 752 yards with 24" 6.5 Grendel, took one at 200 with a 16" 6.5 Grendel this year myself, but by all means whatever excuse you need to get a new rig lol...go for it, formula is a wide one, overbore speedsters to eliminate need for rangefinders (the Weatherby solution for the 20th century) or slow slugs like my 16" 6.5 Grendel that maximize every fraction of a grain of powder but you'll want to use a rangefinder as that same rig I've taken deer at 420 with no problems, it will all work well, on my antelope I noticed not only are they short body as compared to a deer but otherwise similar but their meat is half as dense as a deer, delicate, when I boned out, like a ling cod vs a halibut (squishy/firm) if you've ever had a knife in either, the rockfish land in the middle more like a walleye, point is...they are about as wimpy as a coyote in that regard imo

My go to speed goat rifle is a Weatherby Ultra Light 257 Wby with a 26 inch barrel. Never had any complaints with the 115 NBT and H1000 powder. That said I just aquired a Browning B78 in 25-06 that I'll be playing with this spring. I love single shot rifles and just couldn't resist.

I used a 257 Wby with 115NP for BlackBuck Antelope and exotics on two Texas hunts, 390 yds on my first one. It was a Mod 700 Classic (24") in 25-06 rechambered/converted to magnum. I had killed mule deer with the Sierra 117 SBT in 25-06 but wanted "more", ha. I also used a 6.5/284 Wildcat in late 90's with the 120 NBT on antelope out here, flat and wicked. Same for a Wildcat 6mm/284/90 NBT and the 240WBY/90X bullet worked on them. If you are like me, I don't like to shoot at game over 375-400, a 25-06 is perfect. If you want to stretch farther, consider the 257 WBY. Of course, you could compromise and get a long barreled 25-06 Ackley Improved! Have a Ball man!

I agree - Sako Av in 25-06 that’s the one!
