This is an early Gentry “Montana Mountain Rifle” which appears to be dated to 1982 (if that is possible). Pre-64 action # 244XXX…Bansner stock, 1:9 stainless barrel. Caliber marked “7mm Rem Express”

I bought this from another member several years back. I was gonna use it as a donor, then I was gonna shoot it…then I sat on it and couldn’t make up my mind. Still can’t.

Rifle originally had a 20” barrel with an integrated muzzle brake but it was so loud I cut the brake off, which left the barrel at 18.5”, and had it threaded it for a suppressor (1/2x28). Threads are concentric to the bore. 6 groove 1:9 stainless barrel, bore appears to be in excellent condition.

It’s an ADL style blind magazine, holds 4 down. Mag box is 3.40”, obviously.

Aside from the barrel, which is bead blasted stainless, the rest of the metal parts are coated in what appears to be NP3 but may be some other coating. Regardless the coating is good because there is no corrosion despite normal wear on the bolt and bolt races, etc. Action is very slick.

LOP is 13.5” over a fresh microcell recoil pad. Someone (not Gentry) half-assedly glued a old pachmayr pad on, which I cut off and replaced with the current recoil pad. The old paint was coming off the Bansner stock so I sanded it and hit it with Alumahyde. For my purposes…it’s a solid finish and looks like all my other rifles. If you wanted the stock to look factory-new, it will probably take a skim coat of epoxy in a few areas, esp around the butt... and some more paint.

After threading the barrel, I worked up one load, a 120 TTSX over H4350. The throat is long and I had to use 280AI data to get any sort of pressure. I stopped messing with load development when I got to 2/3 moa and 3050 fps. It is probably capable of better but I got distracted by other projects.

This is a very light and handy rifle. You could screw a suppressor on and run it as is, or have it rebarreled. At the moment, it’s 5lb 13 oz, as shown.

Again…I’m reluctant to sell this. It’s about as light as M70’s get. I just don’t really have a use for it in the near future. I'll try to get some more pictures up.

$850 shipped to your FFL. Would prefer electronic payment. First "I'll take it" wins. Not super interested in trades or offers at the moment.
