My wife and I did the cruise to Alaska about 10 years ago. We stopped in Vancouver on the way home and we took the whale watching tour in a zodiac boat. We got mixed in with a pod of KW's and we had a great view of them breaking out of the water right beside us. After they had satisfied their curiosity, they swam off never to be seen again by us.

When I use to work in Canada as a regional manager for a medical company, I was on the Ferry going over to Vancouver Island at Nanaimo. We came across two whales ( don't remember the type ). Everyone on the Ferry jammed to that one side to see them. There was no room for me to even get close enough to view them thru the windows.

So I just casually looked out the window on the opposite side of the Ferry. Closer than the two on the other side, was about a dozen plus whales, just escorting us around. Almost had the entire pod to view for myself. only several of us were watching those. No one said anything so as to avoid, the crowd coming over to our side of the Ferry like a mob.

People get crazy when they want to view wildlife. Had similar experiences with Buffalo at Yellowstone, and Elk at Waterton in Alberta.

Got to be careful about things like that.

Seen Orcas live in PWS, while in a small aluminium vessel we used transporting. Watched them hunt otters. Something just creeps me out about them . There is something "off", as if the "balance of nature" makes an exception for them. The ease with which the [bleep] up anything they choose is uncanny. Great white sharks just turn white and vacate the area pronto, when orcas show up with a hankering for liver. When the fancy some whale tongue, the just eat it right from some unfortunates mouth. They kick field goals with 300# seals and even swim circles around dolphins. List goes on - nothing is stopping them. Off Spain, a pod has started messing with sail boats.

They're fun to watch when we're out salmon fishing, but fishing's usually slow after they come through.
