Back in the day the really huge loads were called "boast loads." I had 2 uncles and my father who worked the lumber camps in the Upper Peninsula during the depression. My dad was 12 when he was sent to the camp as a laborer (so his mother told me).

Tough times, and they may be coming back thanks to the donkey party.

There is no way they could stack those heavy logs that high without rolling off. Look at the second row from the bottom, each side log is over center of the log under it. How much weight do you think each log weighs? Do you really think two horses could pull that load

The horses didn’t have to pull it for the picture but agree it does not look like a stackable load to me either without having significant side structure support before the chains went on which would be lots of wasted work. Waste was not that prevalent for those days.
