ALL-Don't be afraid of those scope mounting holes in the barrel on the first picture. Marlin done that at factory in 1954 and 1955. Fair price for this M.

Curous (and bump)
Whats the different between a 39A Mountie and the 39M that I have? Was told mine was a Golden 39M when I received it as a 6th grade b day gift.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

Your 39M has a lighter barrel, squared off lever, & is drilled & tapped on the top of the receiver for a scope from the factory. I have the 39M as well, my first rifle made in 1976.

The 39M designation began in 1972, the squared lever & thinner, tapered barrel in 1974.

The M has the straight stock instead of the pistol grip style. Some 39A's also had the straight stock, but to the best of my knowledge no "M" had a pistol grip.

Where is the “small chip at receiver”? Is the stock or forend chipped? Can you post a pic of damaged area?

I paid $900 for my Mountie, which is a couple of years newer and in similar condition. The most fun to shoot rifle I own.

The front sight hood is what came with the rifle when I bought it. I don’t know if it’s original or not.

If you're looking for a classic, this is one that doesn't come up that often and at a fair price. In my opinion, the Marlin 39 carbine-length 22s are the best of the series, & I have several. You won't be sorry if you buy this one.
