I installed a new bladder and relaced my old football: "The Duke" ca. 1975:

Interesting. Never pulled the laces from a football.

Back when you could still buy a baseball, basketball, football, etc. that wasn't from the CCP or some other Pac Rim country. It's cool that you still have it.

The football has been flat for about 3 decades - wouldn't hold air for more than an hour or so. I wanted to keep the original laces, which were higher quality, but they were broken in several places. The new bladder appears to be latex instead of the original black rubber - it's holding air now.
I seem to remember having another, older Duke. Might be around here somewhere...

Bummed I didn’t see this thread a month ago. Just threw two very old football’s away after filling them and not holding air. Never dawned on me to put a new bladder in them.

My dad played high school football back in the late '20's. When we were growing up, he still had his old ball. They were bigger back then and there's no way us kids could throw it. We couldn't get a grip on it. Apparently the pros couldn't grip it either because in the 30's, the NFL went to a smaller ball as passing got more prevalent.
