When's did CALS programs become CAES programs?

The system pretty much requires you be enrolled in the USDA ag programs if you want to sell on the open market. Look at tobacco. If you want to sell it on the open market you have to be enrolled in the tobacco markets under the guidance of the USDA. Pretty much the same on all of the commodities. Don't blame the farmers, blame the federal government for creating the monster they have to deal with.

Or, we can go back to 1972 when corn was $1 a bushel and farmers were selling out to the big corporations. Followed by the farm crisis of the early 1980's where the bankers were intentionally calling in loans so they could get the ground and sell it to their buddies in the corporate farm industry for pennies on the dollar. The system goes from one crisis to another by design. Someone rich always comes out on top. Meanwhile, the family farm is a thing of the past.

Family farmers tend to vote conservatively. That just cannot be allowed to stand. The system needs them to be on the government tit.
