He was also a dang good WWII pilot, earning a Distinguish Flying Cross and other medals of meritorious service for his actions over Germany. After the war, he stayed in the AF Reserves and eventually rose to Brig General, the high ranking actor ever.

I am going to guess that General Jimmy never had a division command over 10,000 men. Not that I know anything, I am just good at guessing.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. -Ernest Hemingway The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.-- Edward John Phelps

I think he said Harvey was his favorite movie it’s my favorite if you can watch it and not feel good you better keep watching till you do you’re almost over the edge. I spent about 5 minutes deceased before they resuscitated me and I spent about a month feeling totally at peace.I’ve tried to get that feeling back ever since.

If I'm told right, James wore his own hat, and rode his horse, Pie, in all his western.

Need more like him. GreggH

His career actually took a hit going off to war.
Its a Wonderful Life was his big break to get back into pictures
it didn't do well in the theaters though - America post WWII for whatever reason didn't want a redemption movie.

Fun fact:
British actor Stewart Granger’s real name was James Stewart. He changed it to avoid confusion with our J.S.
Harvey is the best!
What fresh Hell is this?

What an actor. Better than most of the insipid crap I see on the screen now...a man that paid his dues.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Don't forget Rear Window, with Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr. He was very good in that flick, too.

Perhaps my 2nd favorite actor. Top billing goes to Gregory Peck for me.
