I might argue, you have been in the belly of the beast so to speak on the West coast, therefore you have seen the worst first hand.
I don't disagree with the trend, but me and others are hoping the worst of it will bypass us, for a while anyways.

Ultimately if it goes off everyone should be where they want to be. There ain’t a damn thing to fight for anymore in this state, they stole, cheated and lied until they took everything I valued that this state could offer. I’ve been planning on doing this for 45+ years and I bought the property close to 20 years ago so I can hardly be accused of running, not by anyone who has the slightest clue of what my plans have been anyway. 😂.

Obviously, a lot of details aren't in the two articles linked in the first two pages of this thread, for space constraints if nothing else. However, reading between the lines (they had to rely on a public defender against the state agency and the judge and they didn't move their daughter to a different hospital when the problems started with the care she was receiving), the parents don't have the financial resources to address these issues on their own, and that's a shame.

Let's learn some lessons from this. When they started having problems with the hospital, their church should have helped them get adequate legal counsel (and if their local church didn't have the resources, get a group of affiliated churches to help). Beyond that, their daughter needed a bed in a hospital that would take care of her, not exacerbate her psychological issues, and that probably would have required private funding, again from a support group. Those are both issues that needed addressing and financial assistance before a judge ever got involved in the case.

However, one thing I'm surprised about is that MT Medicaid paid for the girl to stay at a psych hospital in another state. My impression has been that a state's Medicaid is typically tied to that state's medical services. I guess it's possible that the Wyoming hospital is on the MT Medicaid approved facility list, but that's an angle a concerned elected official could check on about this case without getting into medical privacy issues.
