There's a LOT of planes on the ocean bottom in that part of the world from WW2. I'll believe it when it's positively ID'd up close.

5200 square mile search area around Howland Island, her last known locale. No other plane like images reported? Not WWII battle areas. 16,000 ft down. Pretty exciting possibility. It was a top hatch plane. Never heard if they carried a life raft. It would have been difficult to deploy. So many theories, crackpot and otherwise. It would solve a big mystery. Now can you get excited? Sheesh.....

It is pretty darn interesting and the technology used is first rate. It may well be; and yes, pretty cool if so.

Deep Sea Vision says that it believes Earhart and her navigator got off track because they forgot to take into account the International Date Line leading them to be off target and crash into the ocean. Not exactly how that would cause a navigational error. Considering the quality of their reasoning, I'm with Gone Huntin. She was shot down by Lee Harvey Oswald, who acted completely on his own. There are complete photos of the body and the autopsy, but they are sealed out of consideration for the family.

Planes went down all over the Pacific, every day, during the war. Not all of them from combat damage - some ran out of fuel, some got lost, some had mechanical failures that made them ditch. I'll need more than a grainy image of a plane to believe that it's her plane.

Evidently, crossing the International Date Line, there, and forgetting to compensate for the day, would induce a navigational error of ~ 60 miles. I just read that, but IDK.

Well, everyone predicted her attempt at the record books would cause a big splash.
