There's a LOT of planes on the ocean bottom in that part of the world from WW2. I'll believe it when it's positively ID'd up close.

5200 square mile search area around Howland Island, her last known locale. No other plane like images reported? Not WWII battle areas. 16,000 ft down. Pretty exciting possibility. It was a top hatch plane. Never heard if they carried a life raft. It would have been difficult to deploy. So many theories, crackpot and otherwise. It would solve a big mystery. Now can you get excited? Sheesh.....

Watched an interview with the explorer and read a bunch of other articles on this over the weekend. It is pretty darn interesting and the technology used is first rate. It may well be; and yes, pretty cool if so.

Not exactly how that would cause a navigational error.

Considering the quality of their reasoning, I'm with Gone Huntin.

You didn't use logic or reason to get into this opinion, I cannot use logic or reason to get you out of it.

She was shot down by Lee Harvey Oswald, who acted completely on his own. There are complete photos of the body and the autopsy, but they are sealed out of consideration for the family.

No major battles at Howland Island, but the Japanese did bomb it at least once with twin engine bombers.

Evidently, crossing the International Date Line, there, and forgetting to compensate for the day, would induce a navigational error of ~ 60 miles.
I just read that, but IDK.

Well, everyone predicted her attempt at the record books would cause a big splash.
