Tell me what a bar ditch is, and I'll think on it a while. I've been in several regular old ditches, and got out several different ways. The craziest one was, I got pulled out by a logging mule in the early 1970s. The logger told me what ever I do, don't honk the horn. I asked him why, and he said last time he pulled a car out, the lady honked the horn and his mule got spooked and took off with the car through a muddy creek bottom corn field. After I saw how easy the mule pulled me out, I believed him.

I thought 338 was asking if anyone has been stuck in a bar B-itch? Never stuck, always able to escape.

A bar ditch is the small trench created on each dirt road side after the grader has surfaced the road crown for both reconditioning & water run off. Though very shallow, less than a foot normally, it can be quite soft & mushy. On a typical red dirt road, having considerable clay content, your vehicle will easily slide into it and be stuck to the point that it will continually track your wheels despite countersteering.

My buddy was asleep in the front seat. I thought he was going to whoop my ass! He stayed awake the rest of the way to Fort Carson! LOL!

Had a cooper tire blow out and put me in a bar ditch, pulling a heavy trailer. Buddy pulled me out. My passenger quarter panel was destroyed. Never bought another Cooper tire ever again.

Bar ditch, burrow pit, mud hole, sand bed, ice, snow! All kinds of places. Everything from winch trucks, dump trucks, come-a-long, jacks and timbers, tractors, other vehicles.

Ive seen rectangular ponds built in places along the highway. Oh, never considered. Maybe that is right. My incident happened on a dirt road we called the "Nascar turn road", had a big 90 degre turn that was angled.

In my part of Montana it was called the "borrow pit," at least when I was growing up. Far as I know they're all the same thing. And yes, have been stuck in a couple of 'em....

Sort of like the bar or borrow pit. Those pits you see near overpasses where they “borrow” dirt to build up the approaches to oveasses.
