about annealing.
Does straight-walled pistol brass need to be annealed? If so, how often?
And what if it's nickle-plated brass?

If not and you are belling the mouth for lead bullets. that will tend to split.

Not very often. I used to shoot and reload a lot of 9mm. Never seemed to need to anneal them. I was using light target loads though.

How do you keep the case head from getting too hot?
Seems they're short enough that heat travel would be a problem. Especially for 9mm or 45 ACP, for example.
Looking at 38 SPL, BTW.
