Hello. I have a rifle that belonged to my dad that is a Winchester 94 AE Big Bore in 356 Winchester. I know his load was a 220 Speer Hotcor @ 2300 fps but they quit making it. I'm Looking at a .358 220 Fury bullet or .358 225 Hawk bullet. Any experience with either one of these that would indicate I should maybe start with that bullet for elk? Plan on hunting with it in the timber so probably a 250 yard or closer elk rifle with a fixed low power scope (Maybe a Leupold 2.5x20). I know it's not the most efficient round but it was my dad's rifle and I'd enjoy hunting with it for nostalgic sake. I've thought about 200 TTSX and just hunt with one in the chamber and one in the magazine, Speer 180 FN, Hornady 200 round nose or Speer 250s with the nose flattened to be tube mag friendly, etc but the Hawk and the Fury are the tow I keep coming back to.

You're gonna have to make sure they feed from the magazine. I know the Hornady 200 grain RN is too long to feed from the Marlin's magazine. Waiting on some 180's from Speer as we speak.

At one with the gun.

I have both the Winchester AE and a rebored Marlin in 356 Winchester. It is a great round and I use the Speer 180 Hot Cors with great success on our whitetail. Have also used the Speer 200’s and they will also work.

How expensive are they?

I have a bag of furys, never heard of the hawks.
Not sure of the weight though…..I got them in a trade.
I could send you some fury’s in exchange for some hawks. I might also have some 220s

Pm me if you like.

Too bad about Speer discontinuing the 220 gr. FN bullet. They were perfect for the .356. If It was me I'd scout the gun shows and auction sites for some.

I've used Hawk bullets in the 9.3. They are a good cup and core bullets with soft copper jackets.they held together for me. I would check with them about what jacket thickness they would recommend for your use. I recall that you they will put a cannelure if you want one. My experience is that they are knowledgeable and helpful.
I used a 356 on whitetails for a couple years. They tended to fall down and stay put. One didn't, I only hit one lung, but even I could follow that blood trail. Enjoy time with Dad's gun and memories.

I’ve shot the fury bullets and like them. To me they’re a little softer than the Speer 220’s. They are really accurate and have done well on deer and hogs. Never caught one in an animal though, all exited on broad side shots. Testing in milk jugs they hold up well with 65% wt. retention, and penetrated 5 milk jugs…
