I picked up a Brave, has D2 on the blade. Im not sure how good these are. Black Micarta scales.
Are these any good? I paid $40. And it looks to be new condition.

I’ve got a brave when they first came out several years ago.
The original model Mudbug lock back was made by Great Eastern. Nice folders.
One of the last hurricanes that hit LA wiped out their shop. They’ve slowly rebuilt and back to making stuff.
I believe the current Mudbug is made in house.
Couple of their folders are subbed out to Italian company.

I picked up several Mudbugs for myself, family and friends over time. I like flat ground, thin, sharp, and in a lock-back. Mudbugs are that and when GEC made them, I thought they were all that and a little more.
I kind of hate to hear that Dave is reporting they are being made in house at Smith. Might be ok, but I need to be convinced the quality is the same.

Thanks Dave.
The only things I noticed on the last batch of Mudbugs is the blades did not have that GEC polished look, the Smith Logo on the blade is different, (bigger and bolder) the pins are different, the labeling ID style on the blade that GEC used is gone, GEC's 1095 steel is gone, so things have changed.
Change can be good. Time will tell. Hopefully having in house control over everything will mean the new Mudbugs will be Smith's focus to show how good they can make a knife. They are also using D2 steel.
They do look good. Price went up too. $195 for burlap micarta models. Ouch!

I’m not fussing either way, didn’t mean to come across that way.
I’m a sucker for slip joints / sodbusters / lock backs.

Dave I'm a little late to the party but I'm with you, I really like traditional slipjoints and sodbusters in particular. Have you ever tried one of these? https://www.collectorknives.net/sho...-bleached-canvas-micarta-handles-ck0314/If you haven't and want to scratch the itch, pm me. I've got a few. For my money they are the nicest sodbuster 50 (or 100) bucks can buy.
