I keep rediscovering my old Marantz 2330 B with Marantz floor speakers.

What a piece of work that old receiver is. 130 watts per channel and it is pure art lit up. Only made in 1977 - 1978 I think..

I am going to get the speakers re-foamed. I did it myself before but going to take it to a pro this time.

I did some recent research and the receivers are selling for at least 2K now. Wow!

The dials on those old receivers feel like they are spinning in cream!

My kid brother had a Technics (sp?) 100 watt when we were kids. Thatโ€™s all I remember, but the sound was very good. Lots of vinyl.

Is any of the new equipment worthwhile?

You guys remember the old Advent floor speakers? They were the standard speakers to get.

Excellent receiver - good for you. Not sure that those particular speakers are worth the plan/expense.

About 40 bucks to re-foam one. They are nice floor speakers in a decent cabinet. They make for a nice vintage set up.

Nice amp. I would get new speakers. That conservative 130 will drive lots of newer designs that blow the vintage out of the water.

I just looked up the specs. That 130 is into 8 ohms. The 4 ohm spec is only 165 watts. By not doubling to 260, or at least holding close to 200 watts or so at 4 ohms, it doesn't have much "ass behind it" current wise so a modern speaker with a lower and/or reactive impedance may challenge it.

It would drive my speakers with aplomb, and they're down 3 dB at 29 hz in my room and down 10 at 25.

But they're 99 dB sensitivity and have 15" passive radiators in the back. A solid 50 W tube amp would drive you out of the room. They can handle 300 w continuous nonetheless, IIRC.

Plenty of more modern designs also aren't hard to drive. Don't need big towers designed more for fronts in a HT system than 2-channel.

Of course, warm and fuzzy is where it's at for some, ears all being different. The vintage box sound is big, too.

Gotta love that.
