Hell, I grew up in a democRATic household. I identified as a democRAT up until around 2000. However, I quit voting democRAT in 1980. My folks identified as democRAT right up until they died in 2019 and the end of 2023. However, they voted for the Republicans from 1980s also.
Carter changed both my and my folks attitudes, but then that is also when the entire democRATic party started changing. My folks weren't LBJ Johnson fans. They voted for Humphrey, only because they hated Nixon in 1968 and 72. They held their nose when they voted for Humphrey in 68.
If you were our age range, and were from the south, you grew up as a democrat. But as the party changed and embraced communism and socialism, life took a left turn. Today's Republicans are more like what Democrats use to be and no one is really like Republicans were like in the 1950s.
But Toby Keith was a patriot, like many folks from Oklahoma would be. Patriotism and Party affiliation are not necessarily, hand in hand with folks who are patriots.
Rest in Peace Toby. You won't be forgotten for quite a while.
Sad the Good Lord took you home so early in your life. But then Mr Handy makes a good point. Filtering a bunch of booze thru your stomach and liver, not forgetting some drugs also, the music crowd likes to do, takes a toll on a body, regardless if you are a patriot or not.
