Worked with a guy from around Monroe La.

He fooled with cows.

Momma cow had a calf, few days later he noticed the momma cow was acting funny out in the pasture..

Didn’t see the calf..

Got close enough he could hear the calf bawling..

Figured a coyote had injured it and had in down.

Got closer.. calf had fell in an abandoned Septic tank.

He went to the neighbors house to get some help.
He had a front end loader tractor, but was afraid to get it too close and risk crushing the calf.

They got it out by hand… 🤢🤢

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Could have been a had dug well laid up with field stone. I had a neighbor who pastured his dairy cows on an old neighboring farm that he had bought. One morning, he found one of his cows had fallen head first in a well covered with old rotting boards. She couldn't stand up after we lifted her out & had to shoot her.

Probably on old leach pit/cesspool. Pre-septic tank technology! Big hole in ground with stone or brick walls with gaps to let liquids seep out. No baffles, no laterals - just a leaky hole.
When I was 6 or 7, we 'helped' Dad dig one of those in our back yard. It was just a big hole lined with cinder blocks and covered with a couple layers of creosoted planks, then buried.
