Thanks Jeff The pic above is from the ranch I hunt in Humboldt County The elk are huge. The ranch is direct south of Redwood National Park Cool. Lot of that land South of the park is Green Diamond timber. Is the ranch you hunt on an inholding within their lands? I worked on some of that land almost 30 years ago. Cool places in there. And BIG ASS trees.

All I know, if things go as they plan, my friends are soon to close on a nice property a few hundred miles or so north of here in OR that comes with a couple of landowner elk tags.
I can never seem to get drawn around here, so I won't mind going up there if they do get the property, and shooting a nice tasty cow in their hayfield. Brother Geno, The best elk in the world is the one you shoot in your neighbors pasture! extra gooder if you can load it with the tractor! I've killed 4 bulls over the years - in my brother's alfalfa fields. My back doesn't hurt when Johnnie (Deere) does the lifting. Alfalfa fed elk is some GREAT eating!

Steve: That is indeed, incredible! Good for that dedicated Elk Hunter. And, again, the comments are worth perusing. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Quite a headfull. The first time I got a shot at an R, up in the Olympics, it gave that same impression - almost too big for the body. Turned out to be past prime, but still a lot of elk and had a rough time getting it out. That's not happening any longer.
In later years when we lived up in the Gila and had a pasture pond on the edge of the timber, it was unusual joy to watch them move through to water - sometimes 80 or 90 a day. Always some nice NM bulls, but no forms like some of those pictured.
