Attention 260Remguy, I tried to send you the following PM, but I get a message that says "260Remguy is over their Private Topic limit. Hope you can reply to this thread. Back on September 25 in this thread, https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...920-sold-on-gunbroker-today#Post18786555, you made the following offer: "Some years back I posted the information that Mr. Clark sent to me, including copies of the R&D log with the collection guns. IIRC, the change occurred in late June 1926. My earliest 20/26 is number 10,59x in 250-3000 that was accepted into the warehouse on the first or second day of production. If you're interested in the particulars, I can get my binder on the 1920s and 20/26s out when we have a rainy day and can't harvest." I recently purchased 20/26 ser. no. 12878. I would be very interested in the information you have when you get a chance to dig it out. Feel free to post it on the Savage forum rather than sending it only to me. Thanks a lot, Jack

The closest 20/26 that I still have is #1269x. It was shipped on 01/04/29 to Wheelock and Dawley, a sporting goods store in Montpelier, VT.
Apparently someone had Christmas money to spend!

I have a note in my data:
Highest serial 13006. Shipped Jan 1929 per JTC.
I see that Cody lists 13549 as the highest. Might just be a serial entry. Something to check into.

13549 seems like a significant stretch to me.
I wonder where that number came from? I can't seem to find my letter from Mr. Clark regarding the approximate day that the Model 1920 transitioned into the Improved Model 20. I know that it happened during 06/26, but not the specific date or SN.

Does 6/17/1926, serial 10580 ring a bell?

Thanks Don. If you get a chance could you check the barrel address of s/n 11204 and compare it to the Model 99 barrel address styles? If it has patent dates are they Model 99 or 1920 dates? Thanks.

Jack, 11204 is a Style 6 address. I think the Style 4 (1919 date) ended around serial 10500. Save Don a trip to the vault.

Rick, 11204 actually has a style 7 address! My 300 s/n 6809 has the style 6 address accepted sept.29,1922 ,shipped oct 16 1922 to Schoverling,Daly and Gales.

Rifles in that serial range should have the integral long front sight which has the style 6 address. The Style 7 address is on the later raised sight barrel.
Most barrel around the 6809 have had the Model 20 barrel, Style 4A.
I see you have been lettering rifles. I don't have many dates for the bolt guns...thanks.

Rick, the 11204 rifle does have the long integral front sight, must be right about the change over.

For those keeping data, I just acquired Model 20/26, #11541 in .300 Sav. It has the large integral front sight, Style 6 barrel address (with Model 99 patent dates), and no rear sight dovetail. The receiver is machined to accept a stripper clip. Later style Lyman 54 as expected. Smooth butt plate with the Savage logo in the center.
