For Sale: FN .338. I bought this rifle from John Barsness here on the Fire a few years ago. I've never fired it, but Mr. Barsness has written extensively about the rifle and loads that work in it, so load work up has been done. Specifics include:

*Commercial FN Mauser action
*22.5" barrel in .338 Winchester Magnum
*Bansner stock with 13 3/8" LOP
*I'm in the process of a move and don't have a scale handy, but I would guess the weight at 6.75 pounds. I believe Mr. Barsness may have written about the weight in some of the articles regarding the rifle.

Really nice rifle and handles and balances wonderfully.

I will ship the rifle with dies, a 50-round count of unfired brass and two boxes of 210 Barnes (can't remember if they are TSX, TTSX or a combination of both, but will send what I have).

I didn't mention in the article that the lighter-contour barrel the rifle has now is a take-off Sako barrel purchased at a Helena, Montana gun show. Like all Sako barrels it groups VERY well, but I also installed Dyna-Bore Coat in it, to reduce copper-fouling. In fact it was the first barrel I tried DBC in, and it resulted in the rifle grouping very well for around 75-80 rounds between cleanings.

The only reason I sold it was because of starting to retire. But it served me well on hunts from Alaska to Africa, for animals weighing up to 1500 pounds.

Sounds like a fine rifle. If I were 30-40 years younger... then, maybe...

It does have a Model-70-style, 3-position safety that is I believe a Gentry.

This is a great rifle with some documented written history. Someone should save this rifle before it goes to my gunsmith for a caliber adjustment to .375.

If I didn't just have a 338 built this is a bargain.
