Just bought an older Ruger 44 carbine. This is NOT the rotary mag model. Loads 4 through the bottom. Will 44 Special work with this jewel?

Got 3 of them. I don't think so. The action needs hot 44 mags to work

Hornady 240 XTP, 23.5 grains H110, CCI 350 in Starline brass works well in mine. Have also seen them shoot well with 180 of some kind over H110, don’t recall what bullet. Can’t hurt to try a .44 Special with a jacketed bullet.
Stay away from cast bullets, they are said to be hazardous to the health of the gas port. Can’t confirm that but why risk it? It’s not a gun intended for nor especially useful for high volume shooting.
