Cingular/AT&T here in SA,TX. Just tonight was checking their site and my phone shows 3G coverage. So looks like a new notebook with mobile broadband for me.

I have used "Tracfone" for over five years. I really like the service and the convenience of buying my minutes with a few key strokes on my phone!

I've got a track phone. Buy a calling card for $20. every 3 months to top it up. Cheap plan and it works for me.

Depends on how much you talk. If you use under 300 minutes/mo., possibly your cheapest route is Net10 prepaid. It's owned by Tracphone but the program is different. It's a flat .10/min, anytime, local or roaming. To keep it active, you must occasionally buy more airtime whether you use it or not. That comes to an average of $15/mo.

If you want to use the cell as your main phone, this program is expensive. It's designed for low usage customers.

U.S. Cellular

This works well for me and it also works well for my Brother who resides in Wisconsin. We talk with each other on average about ten hours per month for nothing because we are both in a local US Cell area and the 700 minute national monthly minutes never come close to being used up even with relatives in about 10 other states.

We have had good luck using our phones throughout the U.S. also. The downside is some of the local areas are limited.

Verizon here....

Upgraded to new phones this fall, had a lot of problems with new phones kept dropping calls and breaking up. Verizon had upgraded the software. Once the upgrade was installed no further problems.
