Killing elk at 600 yards with a .223 Don't you know a 223 is an elk rifle? Especially with a 53 grain tsx.🤪

Bullets vaporizing upon contact with elk hide. Or it was going so fast it disintegrated before it hit the animal

A 9mm will suck the lungs out of them.
Buds FIL believes a 5.56 fired from an AR is far more dangerous than a 223 fired from a bolt action. Wont even hunt around us if I carry my AR.

An acquaintance told me his Creedmore doesn't get up to speed until it hit 300 yards. Just kept going faster and faster.
Amazing technology. It’s those progressive powders they’re loaded with…

My first elk camp. “My 338 is still rising at 600yards” BIL without missing a beat says “Must be hard to figure out where to aim at 50”

I was in Sportsmans Warehouse buying reloading stuff, guy who worked there told me he killed an elk at 700 yards. I said- it lasered exactly 700 yards? He gave me a mean-eye look and said 'I know it was 700 yards'.. He borrowed a friends 30-06 but only had three 'shells' 2 pointed 1 round-nose. He said he hit it on the first shot,, I asked did you dial the scope or hold over, another mean-eye look sent my way. He said he aimed straight at it, hit it, it took off running he chased it down went to shoot again but the shell was a dud. It ran 600-700 yards and he finished it off with the round-nose bullet. < Quite the feat . He also told me he was a rapper, I believed that.

Amazing technology. It’s those progressive powders they’re loaded with… It's the 155mm Rocket Assisted Projectile technology Hornady borrowed from the DOD.. Once the round gets out there a few miles the rocket kicks in and moves it along.. Hornady is some smart bunch of engineers

The bullet going too fast to expand is my absolute favorite. I almost get a stomach ache when I hear that.
I have to take a breath and walk away since explaining it really won't usually convince someone they're skewed anyhow.

The bullet going too fast to expand is my absolute favorite. I almost get a stomach ache when I hear that. Thats a favorite, along with the opposite... the bullet ( pick your favorite premium bullet) just penciled on through! Working behind the counter at the LGS I felt completely inadequate because I am apparently the ONLY person in Montana who hasn't killed all his elk at 600 yards. Then retired, hunting all over Texas, I'm the ONLY person who hasn't killed a 450 lb pig.... I must be doing something wrong......

I hear you. The penciled thru is a good one as well. If it isn't a 5" exit hole the bullet must've just penciled on through, even though they are apparently skinning/quartering or gutting a dead animal that went nowhere.

I have to take a breath and walk away since explaining it really won't usually convince someone they're skewed anyhow. Yup I heard that from someone when I was buying Barnes bullets. He said do not push them too fast because you do not give them a chance to expand in the animal. While working the counter I had a guy ask me for 270 Winchester shells BUT for a left handed rifle, not right handed.

I hate going into gun stores because many of the guys behind the counter want to tell you what you should buy instead of what I went in to look at. In many it becomes a dik measuring contest. They start telling you what they don't know. I know what I want to look at before I go.

I repeatedly for years when the LR trend started to take off heard, “I want a rifle to kill a bear from 1000 yards”. When queried as to specifics on optics, stock style, rangefinders, basically any of the peripheral stuff that goes into successfully shooting any distance, about the only answer I received was 338 Lapua. And that was generally pronounced LaPow! Which led to us starting to call it the very powerful French cartridge.
