Well, in the course of checking my inventory of 55 grain Nosler ballistic tips, for which I have none, I wound up swapping for 1 partial box of the 55 grain Nosler / Winchester ballistic silvertips.

Now, I have never shot anything 'coated' in any of my barrels, and am not sure if I want to jump into these or just drop back & go to the 50 grain ballistic tips that I have....

Evidently, I figured I was shooting the 50's and bought some at every turn. I have 300+ of those, so it wont be an issue for a long time.

Anybody swapped back & forth on these???

I am shooting the 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip / 22.0 grains of Accurate 2230 with a Federal 200 primer in my LVSF 700

just curious...burt2506

I've heard several times that the Lubalox coating can allow swapping back and forth with uncoated bullets, but that it's generally a good idea to run a few shots through the barrel when swapping before shooting for groups.

I shot 180's coated and uncoated from my 30-06 and didn't have any difference in accuracy switching back and forth. I did have to bump up the charge slightly with the coated bullets to get the same accuracy.

Sounds to me like it might not be worth it.....I might just move to the 50 grain Ballistic Tip and call it good.

Thanks guys......

I interchange them with no issues.

I shoot both with no issues. The lubalox seems to actually foul less than the uncoated ones.

I use the Ballistic Silvertips in 300WM, 25-06, and .270, and find they always group tighter than the uncoated Ballistic Tips by a slight margin. Could be more consistent velocities but I don't keep track of the data.

Don’t back down from them. Lubalox just makes them pretty.

I have a 300 WM that was a copper mine with a really rough barrel. Did the Tubb grit coated bullet treatment then dyna bore coated it and after that only used the ballistic silver tips with the Lubalox coating.
