I have a couple of 2 piece barrels on some S&W revolvers
What is the longest barrel they made on their N Frames?
In SS and blued…..
Thank you

2 piece barrel???
Never came across such an animal. Have a picture?
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Yeah, I think all of the current generation of S&W revolvers use a sleeved barrel.

Colt, to their credit, is still making revolvers the old fashioned way. No key holes. No sleeved barrels.

Not being an engineer or gunsmith I'm wondering how a sleeved barrel could be cheaper better? I think Alex Hamilton of 10ring prescion covered it in American Handgunner on how he had to invent a "desleever* but I'm old and can't remember.
Bangflop! another skinning job due to .260 and proper shot placement.

They still make both one and two piece barrels. The classic series in SS and blued are one piece. Some of the Performance center guns with the odd profile barrels are two piece and some aren’t.
I believe the current production 7.5” Hunter 44 uses the two piece. Some of the past production guns with the 12” and longer barrels also used the two piece. Seems like more of the 357 caliber N frames use the two piece as opposed to the 44s and 45 aside from the alloy frames.
The X frames use the shrouded two piece, I used to be in possession of a set of factory wrenches for removal. They were made to engage the EDM cut rifling in the barrels of the 500 and 460.
The L frames and K frames like the Ns use a mix of one and two pieces depending on model.

I used to be in possession of a set of factory wrenches for removal. Sounds like the old "Screw Barrel" derringers. They were loaded by unscrewing the barrel, placing the powder and ball in the chamber, then screwing the barrel back on over it. They came with a tool that fit into the rifling at the muzzle for screwing and unscrewing the barrel.

Ruger uses a 2 piece …..barrel and shroud DW a 3 piece……barrel shroud and nut
S&W does both.
Just trying to find out about the N frame Smith. To have a set of barrels like a DW
