According to FORM, he advised me 8 twist tikka would have no problem shooting 88s...Pretty sure Stick shoots them as well......I will get to trying them at some point.

I do wish lapua would put out an 80-85 grain scenar - would shoot those in a heartbeat.

8" twist will stabilize 88s, but you'll be giving up some BC points.

Stick, what powder did you switch too?

If that is + 85 FPS over 17 and 88's I'm curious as well.

HA! Who'd have guessed 4831 would have worked so well. Nice, since that stuff is about everywhere.

Wonder how 26 would do since it would fit in the case about the same as 4831?

It's a Down & DIRTY No Frills Killing Rifle and there's not much to cuss mechanically. I wish the NightFarce 2.5-10x Mil-R was FFP,10 Mil's per revolution, had capped windage, locking elevation and a rheostat for illumination control, rather than push button. While reticles are subjective, the Mil-R is light in the loafers for our typical vegetation and thus the appeal of a far faster/easier illumination control. Was R&D'ing glass yesterday and nobody but the Athlon 2-12x,REALLY gets it right for killing. Hint.

I'll suffer along. Hint...............(grin)

I get what you’re saying about the Mil-R reticle, but I can’t get past the Athlon 25oz weight. It seems there isn’t an optic manufacturer that can get it exactly right. It’s maddening.

Thanks I am listening and learning. I recently stumbled across a stash of H4831 and 6 lb followed me home. Laid in Alpha brass. Just waiting on Shaw to deliver the barrel. Ordered Nov 1. Should be here soon.

I started with h4831sc in my 22 Creedmoor and it worked so I haven't tried much else yet. I've been wondering if I could pick up a few fps with another powder but it sounds like h4831sc was a good choice.

Plus I always keep a good supply of h4831sc because that's what I run in my 300wsm with 215 hybrids and my 30-06s with 208s. I used to run it a lot in my 260 years ago with 140s. It always gave me low Sd's and good accuracy and burned clean.

It's one of my top 4 rifle powders along with h1000, h4350, and 8208xbr. I love those Australian powders. I'm actually working on a new load for a 6.5 Creedmoor with 147s and I'm going to give a good compressed load of h4831sc a try in there too. It always used to work well in my 6.5x284s as well. I also used 4831sc in my element 7 prc to fill my 2023 elk tag. But, I think I'm going to move the 7 prc to h1000 now that I found more of that.

I started running 48g 4831sc in 260s with 140s in 1996 and that load shot well in every 260 I've had since. If I can fit up to about 46g in a 6.5 Creedmoor it may do well there too. It looks like 45 will work but it's getting crunchy. So far it's most always been h4350 in my Creedmoors. I've tried a few others but never got around to 4831 until now. I also need to try h4831 in my 6 creedmoors. They've been on h4350 too.
