I am sure most of you have no idea who Billy Waugh was, but quite likely RockyRaab either knew him or knew of him. I just found out that he had passed. A legend in the brotherhood. Here is a wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Waugh Lots of time on the ground in various places, was well loved and respected by most MACV-SOG runners and I Corps LRRPS. A Sergeant Major's Sergeant Major.

His book is a good read. Texas Boy for real when he finally made it into the Army. USMC sent his a packing back home when he tried to join too young.

I didn’t know that he died last year. The pictures of him in his late 60s early 70s in Afghanistan “consulting” are memorable. A genuine Bad Ass. Biggest regret I recall was when he didn’t smoke Bin Laden in Somalia (or similar) while under surveillance in the early 90s

Sgt. Billy was going to go out with me and mine one time for a lark, but the mission got scrubbed, so never ran with him. We were to go from LZ San Juan Hill which was west of Duc Pho (pretty good bandit country). I don't know why he was even there. It was some sort of tour/recruiting thing I think on his part and he was serving chow in the little mess hall, we started talking when our bunch came in and he saw how we were dressed and armed and he said he would go out with us if that was ok. Later with birds inbound we were told to stand down. More to the story, but that is the gist.
I will be interested to hear Rocky's musings on this.
