But, a member of our family had to go to the vet to be relieved of his suffering. He was my wife’s lap dog. We rescued him more than seven years ago. He was a mixed breed. Told many he was part chihuahua and mostly badger. Not a hunting dog but he was my wife’s close friend. We spent his last moments with him to comfort him and my wife. He will be missed. MTG

Sincere condolences. Saying goodbye to a friend like that is very hard … most painful part of having a dog . Good boy, good boy

We have a 9+ year old lab female, Belle, that is an outright upland bird dog. When she has to go I will need a sedative to say goodbye to her. MTG

So sorry to hear of your loss.
I have three such mutts now, two are over 11 and I dread their final day. The one has been my flushing dog for years and the other is a 5 pound bundle of 5% attitude and 95% narcolepsy.
Again, sorry for your loss.

Condolences. Dogs are better people than most people. Just had mine outside for a 6am romp in the freshly fallen snow.

Saying the last good bye to your dog tears a hole in your soul that never gets filled.

...For ALL dog lovers:
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak and pain should keep me from my sleep then will you do what must be done, for this...the last battle...can not be won. You will be sad I understand but don't let grief then stay your hand for on this day, more than the rest your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years you wouldn't want me to suffer so when the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend only, stay with me till the end and hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see I know in time you will agree it is a kindness you do to me although my tail its last has waved from pain and suffering I have been saved don't grieve that it must by you who has to decide this thing to do we've been so close, we two, these years don't let your heart hold any tears. ...Unknown
My yellow Lab, Gus, has been diagnosed with bone cancer and has been given maybe three months. Once I read The Last Battle, I promised my boy I'd be there with him... tears for sure.

Thank you. OP - been there, done it three times; it is never easy, even when the decision is obvious. Comfort to you.

Where I live there is a traveling vet that will come to the house. This is much easier on the dog as they all seem to hate going to the vet.I have used this service on the last four dogs I've have to say good bye to. It is always hard. but this makes it a littler easier!
