So I have a 224 Valkyrie that I am dissatisfied with. That, plus the fact that I want to try something different, has me intrigued about the 6mm arc. All I would do is swap out the barrel and bolt carrier in an existing ar. Would really only be for plinking at long range and maybe coyotes.

Any thoughts on the 6mm arc.

Thanks

What's going wrong with the Valkyrie? The ARC is certainly a good option but not significantly more capable. If the Valkyrie isn't accurate then sure swap to the ARC with a good barrel. If it doesn't have the power you want then I recommend looking at the AR10 platform for more power/range. All depends on what you want to do.

I might be interested in that valkyrie barrel at a decent price. Never played with one. See pretty cheap BCA uppers all the time but have yet to get that far.

Have used and hunted predators with the 6 ARC shot a little Long Range with the 2 I have built, if you want 1/2 of a 6 CM or A .243 Get a .223 it's about the same for less of every thing and that is what a 6 ARC is, in the long run you can do better much cheaper. Most of these want to be 6MM's are not worth the trouble to screw around with. YMMV Rio7

I have a 6 ARC upper with 20" barrel from Six Five Outfitters. I got everything from them except the adjustable gas block (they were out of stock). I killed a nice sow at 268 yards with factory 103 ELDX.

I have a 6arc upper with a 16" Faxon barrel. I have been very pleased with it, although I havent killed anything with it yet. At the range, it shoots lights out with the 103eldx hornady. The arc really just lengthens out what an ar15 can be capable of in a small package. Truth be told, inside 150 yds you probably wont tell a difference in it at a 556.

6 ARC is paper punchers delight, and not terrible to hunt Coyotes with but at the distances most Coyotes are killed the .223 will work just as well. Rio7

Yea, everybody makes sense with their comments. Especially the ones about the 223 working just as well. I was just looking for a reason to try something new, I guess.

Nothing wrong with trying something new. Come to think of it, we might not enjoy some of the things we enjoy if someone didn't 'try something new' (tongue in cheek...sort of).

If you decide to do a 6 ARC, just buy the bolt. You don't need to replace the whole BCG.

I don't have access to a range that's more than 200 yards and I rarely shoot game that far away so my interest in 6 ARC is just a basic interest. Not enough to make me jump a few hurdles to make it happen.

Did just that a few years ago, changed out my upper to 6 ARC,...and at the time reloading components, brass, was very hard to find. Bought some factory stuff to shoot, and for the brass. All things considered, if I were to do it again, I`d not do it. My 223`s, an AR,7.7 T and bolt gun,9T, do what I want with no fuss. And as someone mentioned, a lot less expensive.

I have a 24 Varmint, base is a 6.8 SPC case which does work in the AR-15 platform using 6.8 mags and bolt. I have a 6mm Mongoose and 24 V in ARs they are very accurate they are both in 18" SS with a 1-8 twist. Works well for 70s through the 105s. MDWS does the barrels and dies for them.
I do not buy factory ammo, have 7 presses including two progressives. Much depends on what you do or can build or reload for or on.

I have the 6.8 necked to 6. Shoots very well because it was done by White Oak. On a used shilen tube nonetheless as a favor.

Have yet to tell any difference shooting deer with it vs 223. FWIW

I’d have to be super unsatisfied with what 77gr tmk does from a good barrel before considering something else.

As much as it’s fun to do stuff “just because” once a guy gets on the train of practice makes perfect, and bullets of headstamps mean nothing.. it’s hard to jump off the tries and trued and proven 556 logistics train.

Man I’d love to have a well tuned gasser slinging 77gr tmk right now.

Hope BCA is decent because I'm looking into the 6arc for a bit more than 556. Yes I'm going 24 inches and just feel the 6 has a bit better SD than the 556/224 crowd. Sides somebody needs another ar15 may as well be me.

Bangflop! another skinning job due to .260 and proper shot placement.

This is interesting. Did they rechamber a 6.8 SPC barrel? Is it still an 11 twist barrel?

Rechambering a barrel doesn’t change the bore/caliber from 6.8mm/.277 to 6mm/.243, you know that right?

So, more likely an original chamber in 6mm or a rechamber from 6 ARC to 6/6.8 SPC.

My 6 arc is a 18" nitride stainless m4e1 upper from aero that I bought from brownells. I put it on an m4 lower with prs3 stock and a triggertech adaptable. I was a bit disappointed at first when I was making brass from factory Hornady ammo. It was 1-1.5 moa and my grendel shot much better.

After the first 100 rounds it started to shoot better and the last few trips to the range it did 1/2 moa with 108 elds, cci400s, and 29g leverlution at mag length. I'm going to try that load in the starline brass I picked up and if it shoots the same I'll consider it good and fire up my progressive.

Its a bit heavier than my other 18" ars but it has a bushy elite dmr3 3.5-21 and that gen 3 prs stock. I have a wild like it with an 18" rifle gas and an adjustable carbine stock that makes me consider taking the heavier prs3 off the 6 arc. Ive gotten carried away with aero m4e1 and m5 builds the last few years.

I'm currently doing one in a 350 legend to replace my cheaper radical legend so I'm trying to find a deal on some more 15" S-one handguards. Seems like no one has them on sale lately and I need 2 more. One for the 350 and one for the 22 arc I know I'll be building soon.

I really like the arcs and grendel for AR platforms. I like the Creedmoor rounds for my m5 builds and bolt guns.those 2 case designs do most of what I want in short actions these days. I've has good luck with starline brass for the price too.
