For sale: 50+ year old single shot .22. Started out as the Ithaca M49 in the 60's, manufacturing taken over by Agawam in Massachusetts at some point which is what this one is. It's basically a Martini tilting block action, very strong, very safe. Alloy receiver, steel breech block. Typical of boy's rifles of the era it has a short length of pull. I've fired it and all seems right in terms of safety. Didn't check for accuracy, but a tin can died from it in the backyard. Rear sight looks replaced, it's a semi-buckhorn style. Bore condition is excellent. The bad: it would appear to have suffered the slings and arrows of adolescent ownership. Plenty of minor dings and scrapes in the wood. Finish on the alloy receiver appears to be some sort of phosphate finish and it hasn't aged well. Regular blued steel surfaces are nice. I picked it up recently to fulfill a boyhood dream of owning one. I found, as Thomas Wolfe said, "You can't go home again." It adds to the clutter in my environment so away it goes - hopefully into the hands of a young boy who'll make it sing. $225 + postage. FFL or C&R.

Never knew they made that one. I've got a few 49s and had a few others. Great little 22s

Had one. If you remove the plastic plug at the end of fake mag tube, you can store a bunch of rounds in there. GLWS! Free bump

What a really fun father and son project cleaning it up and shooting it like it was meant to, Sunday afternoons decimating tin cans and Necco wafers. Someone buy it.

BTT. With shipping included in price this time. Like I said, I'm motivated to move it along.

Damnit, just had my first grand daughter, and back in my pawnshop days, saw these and they never made much sense, but after bringing my daughters up with a 1902 winny, these do make more sense. Probably easier to pull the hammer back for a kid than pulling the bolt back.
