I noticed a lot of rifles offered on classifieds are not moving as they were couple years ago, I haven't seen too many pre 64 models being offered but am curious how much would pre 64 model 70 in 270 win standard 24 inch barrel in great condition bring?

Vintage has an effect, also stock. In "great condition" I would say $1000 up to maybe $1200. Pre-war somewhat more. Also seems to vary regionally.

Original stock is in good condition, had a friend gunsmith make me aftermarket wood stock as well that looks great, it shoot under an inch with various loads, but as I get older I'm getting ready to start selling off some of the rifles I'm not using.

“Great” is incredibly subjective. Without pictures, everyone is just guessing. I can tell you that a mid 50’s 98% condition sold in the last two weeks for over 2k. Condition and originality is everything.

Missed on a standard 50s Pre64 Model 70 in 257 Roberts in about NRA 75-80% condition but near perfect bore condition for 1799. I handled it for five minutes and the shop was closing on Saturday. I went back to get it today and it was gone and the owner had listened to me and had marked it up to 1899. The market is strong for the right guns in good condition.

It depends on your buyer. My buddy would pay 1100 for it. For me, for that kind of jack, it better be a 'Classic sporter' from New Haven that looks like it was fired 5 times. But I'm not 'into' Pre -64. I'd offer 850 and walk otherwise.

Bingo, guys burping out values, and they don't even know what year/era the rifle is. Come on guys.. No offense to the OP, but we don't even know how original it is. Value boils down to rarity, originality, condition, and also sometimes locale. However, now we also have online sites that get a huge amount of sales now.

I had another gun head contact me this weekend, and he said he has the chance to pick up a P64 M70 standard grade in 30-06 for a very good price. But, the extractor is missing, which leads me to believe that someone was using hot loads in it and the extractor was sent flying. I told him to look the gun over carefully before and if he buys it. Might turn into a money pit

Duke61: In my neck of the woods (5 state area) pre-64 Winchester Model 70's in "great condition" are bringing strong prices.
I know, I deal in'em!
Anyway a little more information on date of manufacture, percent of finishes, pictures and originality would help getting a more specific appraisal to you.
Are you selling?

It's probably a post 64. You also can't blow an extractor off of a pre 64 like that. If that happened, there would be much more carnage done to the complete rifle. I don't know your buddy, but some of my buddies wouldn't know a pre 64 model 70 from an old Sako. Just sayin..

Just got done looking at pre64s on Guns International. The prices seem to have taken a large jump over what I saw a few months ago. I wonder how many are selling though.

They are up and down. The economy is schidt, so they may not be selling like they used to. With this being said, they are always a good investment, especially if you buy them right. Learn when it's a "buyers market", and when it's not. I don't sell mine too often, but I'd sell when prices are high, not low. It seemed like last year, prices were in the toilet, but that was a direct reflection of the state of the economy. Hopefully it gets much better when Trump is back in office!! FJB!!!

Yes I'm thinking about selling off some rifles, Pre 64 270 and Sako L61R 30-06 in excellent condition would be another. I have Sako pictures and will take some of Win 70 later.

I have a Pre-64 Model 70 in 270 That is in 99%+ shape made in the early 50's that appears unfired and I dropped the price to $1500.00 and No Takers at gun shows.
It is on hold now for a friend.

This has been said before, and very recently here. A gunshow is no place to sell a rifle and expect to get full market price out of it. If you want more money, list it on gunsinternational, or even gunbroker. I wouldn't even list one here, if wanting to get top dollar. In all actuality, a 99% condition early 50's, 270 win at $1,500.00 is a great deal.

That's if it's really "99%+" condition. A lot of them are not, even when they are advertised as such. A lot of them aren't even all original, even though they are advertised as such. A lot of guys don't know what they have. This has been proven over and over on threads here. Once pictures are posted, all bets are off. Trust me on this..

I'm a collector and Master Gunsmith and I do appraisals and grade guns for estates and collections for Insurance purposes.. When I moved from Alaska to Oklahoma Gunbroker froze my account and then wanted way too much personal Info,
copies of my Drivers license, Power Bills, Credit card numbers, to reopen it when I only tried to do a change of address.
And I had only been a BUYER. Screw that. I never used Guns International, since I no Longer have an FFL.
Gun Shows , Even the Tulsa Big one has changed the gun trade from what it was...
Auctions Online seem to be bringing great prices , at least I get outbid all the time.
