I have a great nephew over visiting from London. He is 21 now. Yesterday I let him drive over to the local Bass Pro. Boats, ATVs, clothes, cookware and guns. He was astounded, saying that there is nothing like that in England.

My supervisor was Brit Army when I was stationed in TX. He personally was from N Ireland. When he came to the US to be part of our joint mission the things he fell in love with, no particular order -

1. The A Team
2. Quiznos (understandable)
3. Coors Light
4. Golf

Those were the things he loved the most about the States. Also, at his going away party as he was returning to England he mentioned how he had originally resisted the duty assignment. ZERO interest in the US but realized it was the best 3 years of his life and happy to have made the trip.

Great guy - last I heard was doing threat assessments for GO's in Africa. Him, arguing with a SAPD cop about a speeding ticket still cracks me up. Irish/English vs English with heavy Hispanic accent - wonder we didn't end up arrested.

understandably, the most difficult part of his driving is keeping on the correct side of the dang road. lol Other than that, the lad is coming along nicely. Next week he should get his regular operator license. At that point, I am going to transfer title of one of our cars to him. When/if he goes back to UK later this year, I will get the car back. We have him working in one of the family businesses here in town.
The lad has duel citizenship, so he showed up with a SS card and all rights of 'one of us'.

Sam, get him a gun and take him shooting. Preferably a semi-auto.

Give him a taste of freedom.

we did that on his second day in country. He is staying out at my son's place in the country. They have their own range. He has shot AR15's, AK's, shotguns, bolt and single shot rifles and a wide variety of handguns. The look on his face, first day here (last month) when he looked into the several gun safes we have was priceless.

I had some Aussies on the boat last year. Have had them a few times over the years. They fly over to JBER to train with our forces.

They like to fish and get out when in Alaska.

They made a comment on my Glock after they asked why I didn't carry a gun and they had just missed it because its in the waders but easy to get to. They said must be cool and to be a able to shoot anywhere etc...

I says you want to shoot some? Oh the joy. They are military but rarely get to shoot.

We found a place. Drove out. I think we shot a box of 10mm. Some 9mm. And a pretty god amount of 223 out of my AR and a few rounds out of the 458 win mag possibly. They had a blast. Said it must be nice.

I said. It is. But its going their way quickly and they all said don't let it....

Semi related story - I was out in the desert shooting over the weekend and there were a couple young guys shooting also. One kid from Washington State could not believe that you could drive 10 minutes from town and shoot. He said it was a 1 1/2hr drive for him to go shoot at home.

I told him to enjoy it, but do Not bring any of that Washington BS here. They both agreed........

That is funny about the beer.

These places all have the best beer in the world. Nice and thick and gritty.

They come over here and all they want is light beer.

Mac was a riot and I miss working with him quite a bit. Been since 2005. It also helped he was like 5'2" and the Irish thing - Leprechauns - he took it well. SOLID SOLID dude. Actually, all the Brits I worked for British Army and Air Force.

We partied with some sort of Scottish military group once.

They had come back from Iraq and were kinda laying over in an Airforce town.

Great guys. Tons of fun.

Couldn't give them a MathMan type beer.

Which would be what? There isn't "a" beer for me. I have a broad palate.

Sounds like a very enjoyable experience. Actually, there seems not much in England that is like our country, except for some of the values that run in some of the populace.
