I believe the serial number should be visible through the shrink wrap on the end of the box.

DBrink: Back when these "compact / gloss" scopes were being made they did not have serial numbers on the Leupold factory boxes. The box serialization started later - I am not sure which year though. Maybe someone can help with that? That is/was a dandy scope - good for you. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
