Reading a fascinating book on the SS About 180 SS and 400 or so Ukrainian thugs/forced help type liquidated about 1.5 M from Eastern Europe, with Treblinka being the best known camp but their were a few scattered about that I'd never heard of before. The Ukrainians were the last into the showers, so that is about 8400/1 I never knew it was so skewed.
Most of these came from Poland, Warsaw in particular, though the final few thousand proved to be a bit of a struggle once they figured out what was at the narrow end of the funnel.
The SS learned pretty quick and were able to fool the masses right up until the final doorway. The details of this "forcing cone " are well worth the time to read. Avoiding the mouth of the funnel was the only chance to have a realistic chance of making them earn it.
I couldn't help but notice some parallels with modern times, specifically the covid thing.
