On Wednesday, Massie announced on X that he introduced H.R. 899, a bill that would obliterate the DoE.

"I introduced a bill to end the Department of Education," Massie posted. "We must return the money and authority back to states, school districts, teachers, and parents before it’s too late."

10th amendment. Any powers not given to the fed govt by the states are reserved for the states and people. Nothing in the Constitution gives the fed govt any power over education. And that also applies to a lot of other things. I would like to see the states begin to file lawsuits against the fed over reach and use the 10th amendment as justification

True! So what's the point? Other politicians are calling for elimination of the IRS and other agencies with about the same likelihood.

All I can speculate is "distraction". What are we being distracted from?

Either that, or Massie has been instructed to make it look like the Republicans are "doing something". After all, they've been in control of the House for over one year and haven't done jack chit. They can string this out until the elections, using it to raise money. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I can see justification for "energy" given the interstate aspects of transmission lines, river flows, railways, fuel, etc. No need for the Feds though in education. Let local (state) policies and economics run those.

Sadly, and regardless of the theater, federal dollars always mean federal control. Many years back my father was involved with the building of community swimming pool in a small WVa town. The community had settled on a well-engineered project but was stressed on funding. A federal grant came through but with design mandates tripling cost. It was thanks, but no thanks, and they still have a well-functioning pool today.

I remember well when the Department of Energy was formed, about 1976. Its clearly stated objective: energy independence. Well, we see how that has worked out.

Department of Education sorely needs to go away. We did just fine without it for a long, long time and I don't see any great improvement that it has made to our system.

Massie is self made and hates seeing waste. He saved Lewis County KY enough money his first six months in office as Judge Executive to pay his full four year salary. Unlike your jihadi that loves spending and living off OPM. How 'bout you clean up your own mess before you start spewing sewage about someone actually doing something positive FOR the people he represents...

DO education needs to go.

DO energy is needed to oversee and regulate construction of about 100 new modern safe reactors which will, along with a bunch of new coal plants, actually do something to address the national shortage of electricity.
