You can modify a 98 extractor, going slow, so as not to over heat the craw. Buy a couple in case of an error. The Siamese is a 98 Mauser, built by Arasaka Arsenal, Japan, under German license, for the Thai Government. Many 98 parts will fit the Siamese with at most a little tweaking. Be a good idea to have a can of oil handy to dip it.

"History

The arsenal was inaugurated in 1871, soon after the Meiji restoration. One of its main early productions was the Murata rifle, the first locally produced Japanese rifle. As of 1893, it was producing about 200 rifles and 200,000 cartridges daily.[2] The arsenal was especially active between the two World Wars, as the Arisaka rifle was produced there.[3] The arsenal also produced licensed Mauser style rifles based on the Gewehr 98 for the military of Siam (now Thailand)."

When I say something, it is with the experience, of building custom guns with my own hands, plus knowing a bit about the history. I have built dosens in the four shops I worked in and four for myself, currently own two in 45-70.

As I said earlier, you got some of it right. There was no Arisaka Arsenal. Col. Nariakira Arisaka, designer of the Types 38 and 99 was the Superintendent of the Tokyo Arsenal.

Here's a list of the various Japanese arsenals:

There were also some Type 38s made at the Mukden Arsenal in Manchuria and the Jinsen Arsenal in Korea. And there were no less than five variants of Siamese Mausers.
