I have never been much of a slug shooter, but my LGS had a new savage 220 left handed and I just couldnt resist. I have not shot it yet, as the sabot slugs have been a little hard to come by but so far I am really liking the look and feel of this "rifle?" After studying the ballistics a little bit, there really isnt anything else you need for hunting deer. Sure you cant shoot long range but personally I have never even attempted to shoot at a deer past 200 yards. Not many of those shots happen in Eastern NC.

I say all of that to say as far as lefties go, this "rifle" is a pretty solid option. Does anybody else have some experience with it?

They are accurate guns. Lots of reviews say stick with Remington Accu-Tip's but mine prefers Hornady SST's.

I have a few boxes of both. A little on the expensive side IMO but its not like this is a plinker so it is what it is. I also found some browning sabots too so we shall see which mine likes

VERY god choice you made in buying that gun. Very accurate out the box. I’ve ever missed with mine.

I am excited to use it. Going to hopefully get it sighted in today with some SSTs and get to hunt with it this weekend

I’ve used my Savage 220 lefty to harvest four blacktail deer in Northern California - four years in a row. I really like mine. Deadly accurate and puts deer down! I only put 1 round in the barrel and one in the magazine - along with two in my pocket. These guns are known for jamming if you have two in the magazine. Recoil from your first shot can cause the twin in the magazine to shift. The brass lip on the second round can get hung up on the third round lip and totally jam.

Bought one as soon as they came out for hunting in Illinois. Shot great. About as good as a slug gun can be. Sold it as soon as Illinois allowed straight walled cartridges.

I purchased one to hunt the special regulation area surrounding Pittsburgh. Of course, the very next year they offered it in a lefty variation but shooting the RH never bothered me and I've never needed a rapid 2nd shot.
Excellent shooters - mine has slight preference for Remington Accu-Tip "deer whistles (as we call them". Lightfields are close second followed by Horn

Made a 160-yard shot on a doe a few years ago and dumped her where she stood.
