If you zoom in and trace the “collar” down looks like maybe could be some kinda vegetation vs collar.

The camera is at almost the same angle for both. Look at the one without the collar. There is nothing in front of the down tree that would make a dark streak like that.

Otoh, the 2d pic shows it almost head on. It's possible that it's the same animal but it's just turned so the collar isn't visible. Otherwise they look very much alike.

I've not heard that MI DNR is collaring coyotes, but not to say they aren't. They are putting collars on wolves in the eastern UP. Friend caught a female collared wolf N of Rudyard a few years ago on the trail camera. She was carrying a snowshoe hare and looked like she had pups.

I've heard that a wolf collar was once found in the Munuscong River.

Thinking photo 2 is young female wolf. Collar with GPS tracking would let DNR biologists locate den sites as well as general area of that pack's territory. Once DNR told me that a eastern UP pack was operating near Raber Bay but I found a day or two old pair of tracks 30 miles west of there a day later.
