If in decent shape, that will be an expensive rifle. I love the old MK1 ultralight carbines, but they bring crazy money now.

For my own knowledge, how do you identify an ultralight vs a standard M77?

There's a .270 RL and 2 .270 RLS's on GB right now.

Factory stocks are slimmer and have a black forend tip on the stock. I believe the barrels are 20” or 2” shorter than sporter length.

They’re pretty nice and you seem to see twenty sporter versions for every ultra light version. Good luck

Correct. Light contoured barrels that are 20" in standard cartridges and the stock has a black tip. At least the tang safety versions are.

Here's mine in a 250 Savage.

same as above samples. Also the caliber designation is not on the barrel shank, but further forward on the barrel. Shorter, 20" barrels have a "short shank" and not enough room for caliber designation.

257 Roberts, Hawkeye M77 long action on the left, 243 win. M77 MK II short action on right. Not M77 tangers.

Caliber designation on the barrel.

They aren’t always super expensive. Prices seem to be going down and deals are found if you look long enough.

I bid on this one up to $760 and someone else wanted it more than I did. I really had no use for it. But a .308 RLS Mark II for under $900 shipped is not a bad deal.
One thing with the Ultralights, I never understood the chambering. .243 and.308 seem like good ideas, .270 and .30-06 in not really. 7mm-08, .260 Remington, .338 Federal, .358 Winchester, .35 Remington, 6.5 Creedmore all would be great chamberings and would sell like hotcakes.

The original 77RL tang safety rifles came in 243, 250 savage, 257 Roberts, 7mm-08, 308, 270, and 22-250. They were also offered in a brown laminate stock from the factory.

I had one in 30/06. Not sure on sights. My girls still have 243 I traded for years ago. Killed truck load deer with it. The 06 was brutal on the bench. In field it was pure joy.

I saw that one the other day too, but I prefer the tang safety model

I've got a M77 RL in '06 that I always seem to grab when walking around deer hunting. I bedded it in the stock and if I don't heat up the barrel it'll stack 3 rounds of 150gr sierra handloads into a nice clover at 100yds.

It was hell doing load development though. Barrel heats up quickly and groups open up even faster.
