have ordered some bullets that were on Midway listed as seconds. 225 grain polymer tipped 30 caliber
which would lead me to believe they were Hornady but they come with tips that do not line up with that kind of a clearish yellow green. don't know if Sierra makes a bullet in that size laid and like a tipped the game or match King? is there anybody that knows this for sure?

Compare with pics, prices, and descriptions on Midway of non 2nds and it’s usually pretty easy to figure out.
I always check the firsts before buying seconds, sometimes Ol Larry will try to slip one in on you and the seconds will cost more than the firsts.

the seconds for way cheaper than the first if they are Hornady. which I highly suspicion. and pretty much everything else I know of that would even be close is even more expensive.
a person definitely wants to watch when you buy seconds anywhere that are sold by the pound. do the math it just might not be as good a deal as you're thinking.

I bought some of those .284 150 grain sp bullets and they were all .282-.283 diameter. Returned them to Midway without a problem.

Anymore, I find Midway's seconds bullets often cost as much as firsts other places.

I bought a bunch of .224 75 grain HPBT seconds from Midway a while back. These appear to be the the Hornady 75 grain HPBT match bullets. They shoot very well and were pretty cheap so I thought it was a good deal.

I was looking at their seconds yesterday evening. When I looked a few particular grains up, Hornady is the only manufacturer that showed up. The different colored polymer threw me off. The disclaimer about possible variations in diameter made me put the brakes on. I’m not set up for resizing their seconds.

The different color polymer, at least in the ones I got, was a result of them not wanting to change the ad. I Think. The ad read TMK 75 gr what I got was clearly Hornady VLD. Also every box was short 3-5 bullets.

For many years, I have used the Nosler factory seconds sold through the Shooter's Pro Shop. They have never disappointed.
But the various "seconds" I purchased from Midway have largely been a disappointment. With the exception of one batch (7mm 140s) which was excellent and must have actually been overruns, I found myself culling 30 to 40 bullets per hundred. Missing tips, missing CORES, misplaced cannelures and wide variances in weight, diameter and ogive were the most common culprits. Unless you are lucky enough to get a good batch, the Midway seconds are not worth the price -- not even when discounted.
Also, a few of the batches were short several bullets.

I just bought some bullets from Mid-South that we $2 more a box than Larry's 2nds. The only reason I buy from Midway anymore is as a last resort on something I need now. Their business policies stink, too. MM
