I almost stopped by there today on my way back home from Evansville just to see if they were open. I'm assuming they are not open though, by what I'm reading. I hate that as I've been going there for a good many years. Have talked to Darrick there, and he seemed to be a super good guy, so I hate that if that is the case.

I hope not I’ve had a shotgun on order since late January. I finally canceled my order this week and haven’t got my refund. Looks like I’m going to be out some money.

What a shame. SAS brought some damn good deals to the members here. If I remember correctly, wasn’t he partially responsible for the 1-8” Tikka .223’s and .22-250’s?

Has to be a tough deal for a lot of brick and mortar stores with the sheer amount of online retailers now. Spread the product out and they can’t get the product to do the volume they need.

Was Darrick the owner when it closed? Sounds like he was a co-owner in 2019 according to this news release. https://www.owensborotimes.com/feat...ht-with-buck-commander/?lp_txn_id=176320Business Whittaker Guns announces online rebrand, ‘Night with Buck Commander’
August 10, 2019 | 3:20 am
Owners of Whittaker Guns, the state’s largest gun store located in west Daviess County, say their business offers more than firearms. With clothing, grills, outdoor gear and the state’s largest archery selection, the store unveiled an online rebrand — Whittaker Country — on Friday.
Whittaker’s co-owner Darrik Caraway said while the storefront will still say Whittaker Guns and the business will continue as is, social media accounts have transitioned to Whittaker Country.
According to Caraway, social media content algorithms do not favor the word “guns,” which he said was negatively affecting the company’s online presence. ...
“Our primary reasoning is to make sure our customers can receive the message they want to receive,” he said.
...
This wasn’t the only message Whittaker Country announced on social media Friday. On October 25 and 26, the store will host its fifth Guntoberfest, which will feature a Night with Buck Commander, the popular show on the Outdoor Channel starring Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame.
Robertson will emcee the October event at Whittaker’s and will be joined by the show’s crew — Adam LaRoche, Tombo Martin and Ryan Langerhans.
The event will end with a concert as it has the last two years when Joe Diffie and Sammy Kershaw took the stage in West Louisville. Although Caraway said he is not ready to announce who will be headlining the upcoming concert, he did tell Owensboro Times that it will be a more intimate event than years past.
“There will be two performers, but there will not be full-blown bands,” he said “This will be more of an acoustic performance.”
Caraway said a more toned down show was a request of the artists.
“It’s fun for the performers, but they are still going to sing their same songs,” he said.
Caraway said Guntoberfest also offers customers a sales event on Whittaker’s merchandise, where people can actually meet the manufacturer.
Whittaker Guns, open since 1988, is located at 6976 West Louisville Lane.

The thing that I hate most about this is that it will be one less place to buy a gun in my area, and that translates into the less the competition, usually the higher the prices. Whittakers was fair on their prices, and offered a wide variety of products. While I was a bigger fan of the old store, there was nothing wrong with the new one. I like shopping in a place where I can handle a gun, without having to ask some salesperson if I can see it, and then having them stand over me as if they're afraid I might run out of the store with it. Whittakers had the long guns on a rack where you could do just that.
