You guys told me yesterday how to get the bolt out. When I got it out I noticed that the pin that cocks the
firing pin is too short. Shouldn't that pin go all the way thru?

Think about that for a moment or two. Do you still want to ask?

Yes. The easy way to cure that would be to get a hardened, ground steel dowel pin of the appropriate diameter and length (length slightly less (.005 - .010 shorter than diameter of bolt body sleeve bolt handle is attached to) and tap it through with a brass hammer, using it as a drift to remove the apparently broken one it replaces.

You might be able to find a replacement at Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) and I think it would be the same part for any of the 5xx series Remington bolt action rimfires.

Best of luck. Those Remington 5xx series rimfires are sweet rifles, well worth restoring.

Just pulled the bolt out of a 512, yes the pin should be visible from both sides. The 512 does share p/n for the pin to be same as the 510, but out of stock @Numrich.

Is there a problem with the guns firing ?

It still fires but it does cock harder than it should. I drifted it out enough to get a caliper on it. .140 dia. and should be .590 long

A piece of the shank off a #28 or 9/64" drill could be the quick fix if ya just happen to have the drill bits around. On a good bit the shank will softer than the cutting point but still be good steel.

O.k., don't think about it, go ahead and change it out. Bet you'll be back.

A numbered drill bit, same size, cut the shank to the length to match the exterior diameter. break the edge and polish, heat red hot, drop into a can of motor oil. Harden the cam pin. Make sure it does not protrude or have a sharp edge.
Easier to make one than find one. The 510, 511, 512 bolts are exactly the same. The receiver and blocks are different. Have a few of each. This is 6 of 12 Rem 511s I restored.

You could also get a 9/64 drill
blank, cut a piece off and finish to length with a cut off wheel on a Dremel if that’s all you’ve got.
