Any mobile welder, in the vicinity of the TX panhandle, is soon to be in VERY high demand.
Miles of fence to replace - and many are using upset tubing for braces.
Just a FYI.

I am no souper whizz welder, and I have welded, lengthened, and shortened class 8 truck frames by the dozens, for otr companies who were given FMCSA inspections and California BIT inspections quarterly, sometimes every trip. Also I held a certified commercial vehicle inspector ticket, and had all the bibles for inspection criteria...and I never saw any prohibition regarding welded frames. Not sayin' there isn't, just I was never aware of any restrictions. Although I personally turned down jobs repairing frames in the area of the steering axle spring brackets...that is high risk, my family may be on that same highway, if you get my drift.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Yeah, they'll have lots of demand up there for awhile.

Any fencing supplies just went up in price, even cedar posts.

I also imagine cow/calf pairs and replacement cows/heifers with be crazy high too. Already short supply because ranchers offloaded for the drought.

Never quite understood it,
there is all kind of hoopla about welding on car frames.
While stretching and shortening truck frames is an everyday thing.

I hope they make enough graze TO restock! May be kind of doubtful.
I would think that, being similar to this latitude, their grazing situation won't begin to be known for a while.
Our black gramma and buffalo grasses may start showing a little green in a coupla-three weeks, but it won't start to come on until ~ the 10th of May - Cinco de Mayo at best, usually.

I'm working on a dam in NC for wages with a paid for Lincoln diesel rig at home. I hate chasing my money down and people freak out because the work is going to cost them $200/hr.

Right now a man can make over $100 per hour on the books and not have to mess with invoicing....if you're going to hassle with your own tools and time to get paid.....make it pay.

My question for the 'Fire is, how much demand exists for mobile welding repair services? This would be part time, such as nights and weekends. I am not quitting my day job, and yes, I am a very qualified welder.

Thank you all in advance for your thoughts and opinions.
Good luck

To add fat to the fire, without pretty good mechanic skills...you will lose a lot of work. More often than not, it will be necessary to remove the part, weld it, and re install it. Customers don't want to hire two guys to complete a job. And when the customer is looking over your shoulder, all he can think about is he is paying you 100+ bucks an hour, and you gotta hustle to satisfy him.
Other than some time out for logging, I have operated a field truck for almost 50 years, and I'd say that pure welding only amounted to 20 or 25% of my income. Even getting to be the guy they call on a crushing or sand and gravel operation, welding only amounts to 60% of your billable hours.
It's a hard job, I wish you the best.

Good post.

Not in my experience.

If they cant weld structual then they are wanrabe's

Stupidest thing I’ve heard today lol.
Structural welding is the toddler stage of a welder. Dirt dobbing some [bleep] on a trailer hitch or pipe support is far removed form welding pressure containing piping. I welded for 15 years then got certified to inspect welds (CWI) it’s what I do daily. Part of my job is identifying stupid/retardation and poor quality work.

I have to agree with you
Been a CWI since 95 and welding since 74

Did you just get out of bed boomer, still rubbing your eyes and nursing that hangover?

Decrepit, old, drunken fool, is all I can figure you for.
